Selecting New Children

I just talked with Jackie, the children’s worker for the kids. They are currently in the very remote villages selecting new kids for us to help. They have to do a lot of hiking to get to the houses which are far apart. Now with the rains, the work becomes much more difficult.

They are seeing numerous kids that meet our criteria for help, which are:
– The children are orphaned by both parents (usually) or by one parent and a parent who is handicapped by illness, extreme poverty etc.
– There is no relative that can help the child.
– The child currently lacks parental care, shelter,  medical care, education etc.
– If left without help, the life of the child is at risk.

When you see our potential child in his natural environment, you know it and your heart weeps.

Jackie left me weeping when she told me of several cases of children with obvious kwashiorkor and yet some relatives who must give permission for the children to be helped are refusing because many exploit the children as child labor. There are many children like that who are obviously in slavery even though they don’t know it and they cannot set themselves free.

What can you do about this?

You can pray for God to move the hearts of these relatives to release the children.
