Note: In the non-profit world, the word development is used to mean fundraising. For example, a development coordinator is a fundraising coordinator. This position requires someone who is gifted at fundraising and enjoys it not for the sake of the financial resources raised but because of the transformation that God brings about in those who generously give and in those whom the resources serve.

About the position:

We are a high-impact faith-based nonprofit that 1) empowers people globally to live life to the fullest, 2) develops leaders globally, and 3) cares for orphans and vulnerable children in Cameroon, Africa. We are looking for an experienced and highly motivated development coordinator. This development coordinator will develop deep relationships with stakeholders, cultivate and grow our key stakeholder base, and execute effective fundraising strategies that provide the necessary fuel for significant growth.

As development coordinator, you will be the chief salesperson for the organization. You will handle numerous responsibilities related to organizational fundraising, child sponsorship, and managing volunteers. You will be the point person for planning and executing events, keeping track of money, and coordinating volunteers and interns. You will generate lists to contact vendors and volunteers for nonprofit events and news, and process and track bills related to events. A coordinator also keeps track of all charitable gifts. You will also be expected to travel to meet and connect with current and potential donors or to speak at churches and other venues. You will be responsible for the delivery and overall success of our fundraising activities as well as our child sponsorship activities.

A successful development coordinator must have a broad knowledge of program and relationship building skills to connect with and serve donors. They must have a strategic mindset as well as be able to develop, grow, and lead a team to support our development strategy. They must be able to sell the organization, fundraise, and manage donor relations. The goal is to ensure every fundraising initiative will be delivered successfully and add the highest possible value to the organization.

This position will report to our president and CEO and requires a successful track record in leadership and raising partners and funds for a nonprofit or ministry. Applicants will be asked to share specific details about their approach to leadership, fundraising, learnings, and successes.

Key Requirements:

  • A proven track record of initiating and leading the raising of funds in the six-figure amounts.
  • Ability to create and implement an effective fundraising model and strategy that aligns with Shaping Destiny goals and results in significant growth opportunities for the non-profit.
  • Strong ability to set goals while effectively executing on and managing goals within specific deadlines.
  • A tested and proven approach to building key relationships that strengthen the non-profit’s brand and generate opportunities for raising funds.
  • Solid and widespread network from which to build relationships and raise funds.
  • Strong ability to articulate the “stories” of a nonprofit or ministry.
  • Personal commitment to the Christian faith, inspiring and empowering others, and to the mission of Shaping Destiny.
  • Experience with major donors and major gift-giving campaigns.
  • Must be driven, have self-initiative, and be comfortable working solo for the most part.
  • Excellent presentation and public speaking skills.

Duties May Include:

  • Build an effective fundraising strategy for each fiscal year and collaborate with other team members to execute on that strategy.
  • Create deadline driven goals based on an effective fundraising strategy and consistently execute on and evaluate the performance of goal execution.
  • Be expected to meet a specific revenue goal within a given timeline.
  • Build relationships with corporate and community leaders both locally and worldwide.
  • Coordinate identification and relationship building with key donors and groups.
  • Conduct discovery of who may be local and global major donors and initiate a meeting to determine interest and ability to make a major gift.
  • Cultivating relationships with new prospective donors as well as retaining relationships with current donors.
  • Develop marketing materials and plan events to generate funding.
  • Recruit, schedule, and ensure a positive experience for volunteers.
  • Develop new and innovative strategies for recruiting new child sponsors as well as other giving partner categories to fulfill the mission of the organization.
  • Promote child sponsorship at all relevant opportunities and achieve agreed targets for securing new child sponsorship donors each year.
  • Lead, grow, and engage our child sponsorship base.
  • Reporting results to the CEO and collaborate with the team for fundraising strategies.
