What to Expect
In the past, we have gone months without giving you updates about the things that Shaping Destiny is doing because we wanted to put time into doing a nice and professional newsletter. That often took more time than we anticipated and led to failures to keep you updated regularly. By popular demand, we will instead be sending you short updates weekly. These updates will be no more than 500 words per email and we will try to keep them focused on a few points at a time. Of course there is so much more happening with the kids and every three months, God willing, we will do a newsletter for you and send it in the mail to cover the preceding three months. It is often a challenge to figure out how you prefer to get your updates. We want to keep you updated so that you can better serve the children through your prayers as well as your giving. We also want to be respectful of your time knowing full well that life is busy. So, if you have any suggestions, please don’t hesitate to send us an email. We are learning how to serve God better and we are excited to be learning with you!
Updates from Selecting Children.
Recently, I sent you an email sharing with you how we were selecting new children and how heart breaking were the conditions of some of the children we found. We pre-selected 150 orphans that we are praying to start helping in September. Among them is a three month old girl. Her mother died shortly after birth and left her with her grandmother who has been feeding her a corn starch called “pap”. The team reported that she was so small and frail that they wanted to take the child with them right away. However, the grandmother needed to wait for an uncle to come from another part of the country. We ended up buying formula for the baby and teaching her how to give it. We are still following up to take her or find a capable relative who can care for the girl. Placing a child with a capable relative is usually our preferred option when that can be done. Because of the great need that exists, we are believing God to serve 500 new orphans by September 2011 and 1,000 more between September 2011 and September 2012. This is our largest leap of faith so far. But we believe God has matured and prepared us for such a time as this. Join us to pray and believe for God to help these kids.
In future emails, we will share with you our vision for the future and encourage you to continue to believe God with us for orphans.
We thank God for the opportunity to serve his kingdom side by side. Don’t forget to be praying for the kids and their work. They are praying for you daily – literally.
